GGGI Pacific in partnership with the Climate Change and International Cooperation Division (CCICD) of the Ministry of Economy, Fiji, successfully completed community-level trainings in selected Fijian communities under its project titled “Capacity Building to Strengthen Sustainable Implementation of Renewable Energy Technologies for Rural Energy Access”.
Rukua, Beqa was the third to receive the training amongst the 5 targeted communities selected in Fiji. Almost 160 participants attended the training during a 1 week period in June 2022 on the topics of Renewable Energy and Green Economy. The training aimed to strengthen informed and inclusive decision-making by resource owners and local government officials for integration of Green Economy and Renewable Energy into Local Level Planning and to strengthen implementation of Renewable Energy Infrastructure for Rural Electrification taking into account #gender and inclusive development. A team from GGGI Fiji and Korea International Corporation Agency (KOICA) Fiji, consisting of 5 people also visited the Island during the week to observe the ongoing trainings and meet the local people on the ground. The KOICA Fiji Office 코이카 피지 사무소 Country Director Mr. Kapchae Ra, as well as the Global Green Growth Institute Country representative for Fiji, Kiribati, Tonga and Vanuatu, Mr. Daniel Munoz-Smith, were also able to hand over training certificates to the participants during the visit.
To effectively implement this project, GGGI Pacific team worked closely with local partners, developed 10 training modules with detailed trainer guides and learners’ workbooks and mobilized 5 trainers to Rukua, Beqa. A training of trainers workshop was held in November 2021, whereby a total of 8 trainers were trained under the project, to prepare them for community trainings in Fiji.
This project is funded by the Republic of Korea through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and is scheduled for completion by December 2022.
