Project Implementation in Papua New Guinea

In Papua New Guinea, project activities were implemented by the Global Green Growth Institute in partnership with the Government of Papua New Guinea through the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA).

The Project had initially recruited Mr. Gibson Gala as the National Project Coordinator, who was later replaced by Mr. Benjamin Keni, who oversaw the completion of most of the project implementation  in Papua New Guinea.

The preliminary assessment had recommended that project implementation should target sites within two districts in Central province – Hiri and Rigo.

The preliminary assessment also identified a number of challenges that could impact on the project. These were:

  • Law and regulations relating to RE are not up to date
  • Design of projects vis-a-vis climate resilience
  • Need more community ownership of projects
  • Vandalism can be a problem
  • Low quality products available for sale
